Membrane Bioreactor (MBR)Microclear

Membrane Bioreactor (MBR): The Emerging Global Standard

Membrane Bioreactors combine conventional activated sludge (CAS) treatment with a membrane liquid-solid separation process. Microclear™ MBR products are treating sewage to near-potable quality in thousands of systems worldwide. These include remote work camps for resource industries, decentralized systems for municipalities, resorts, and industrial and agricultural applications.

Application Flexibility

Sewage, Greywater & Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants

  • Remote camps for resource industries (mining, forestry, oil & gas)
  • Small municipalities
  • Subdivisions without access to sewage support network
  • Individual homes
  • Hotels, resorts, golf & country clubs

Industrial & Agricultural Wastewater Treatment Plants

  • Dairy food products (cheese plants)
  • Slaughter houses
  • Wineries
  • Industrial chemical plants
  • Agricultural polluted wastewater

MicroClear™ Membrane

These units are submerged directly into the wastewater and filtrate (filtered water) is drawn through and out of the membrane by a slight negative pressure. Solids, bacteria, parasites and viruses remain in the bioreactor to be digested by bacteria or settle as sludge. Microclear™ MBR eliminate the need for the final stages of conventional wastewater treatment plants, including clarification and filtration.

Advantages:

  • Chemical-free self-cleaning with backpulse capability for reduced maintenance
  • High efficiency design minimizes space requirements
  • Effective barrier against solids, organic pollutants and microorganisms
  • Consistent plate spacing for optimized self-cleaning
  • Air scouring earns an oxygen credit in the aeration tank up to 40% versus other MBR systems
  • Reduce sludge yield by 60-80% versus conventional systems

Chemical-Free Self-Cleaning

MicroClear™ MBR systems feature continuous air scouring of the membranes during operation. Fine air bubbles gently remove the filter cake – extending filter life and minimizing maintenance.

Backpulsing Feature
To enhance cleaning, the system features a backpulsing mode.
1.Water direction is reversed.
2.The openings where filtrate exits into the collector become backpulse water inlets.
3.This causes the membranes to bulge slightly, increasing the effectiveness of the air bubble scouring.

Exceptional Effluent Quality

The patented MicroClear™™ membranes are an effective barrier against particulate, bacteria, viruses, E. coli and chlorine-resistant, pathogenic microorganisms, including Cryptosporidium and Giardia lamblia. Effluent from Microclear™ MBR systems is superior to conventional treatment processes, and meets or exceeds regulatory requirements. It provides the flexibility of direct discharge, even in environmentally sensitive areas, as well as water recycling and reuse for secondary purposes.

Compact & Scalable up to 1 MGD

Minimal Footprint

The space efficiency of Microclear™ MBR Microclear MBR systems offers tremendous installation flexibility and helps reduce installation costs. Our systems are capable of treating high volumes of wastewater in a minimal footprint. Compared to conventional activated slude systems,MBR treatment solutions require only one quarter of the area. This makes our systems ideal for remote use, and anywhere space is at a premium, such as retrofitting conventional treatment plants that are outdated or at maximum capacity.

Modular Flexibility & Scalability

A key benefit of Microclear™ MBR systems is their scalability to accommodate treatment requirements of virtually any size – up to 1 million gallons per day (MGD). The modular filter cassettes can be arranged in numerous combinations inside the housings – stacked or side-by-side – to reduce space requirements. In decentralized applications, cassettes can be configured five-high to minimize footprint and air requirements. They can also be formatted in framed modules that utilize a hoist mechanism to lower them into the tank and raise them for periodic cleaning (annually or semi-annually).

Configurable to Your Application

MicroClear™ modules can be installed in septic tanks, plastic or metal tanks for containerized systems, or concrete tanks for large municipal systems. newterra offers standardized MBR packages as well as customized treatment solutions.

Designed & Built for Minimal Maintenance

Microclear™ MBR systems are field proven in some of the most extreme conditions on the planet. Operator feedback has been a key ingredient in the development and refinement of our robust treatment solutions. Our low maintenance systems feature:

  • Consistent, user-friendly controls and instrumentation
  • Chemical-free self-cleaning membranes with backpulse mode
  • Built-in redundancy for trouble-free operation
  • Work space designed to accommodate and simplify maintenance procedures
  • Membranes that resist clogging by fibrous substances
  • Quick access to individual membrane plates for periodic hose flushing, de-ragging and cleaning
  • Easy membrane loading & removal system (patent pending) for fast changeouts

SiteLink Telemetry

SiteLink telemetry enables remote monitoring, reporting and process control of systems in the field without having to travel to the site. It can also provide alerts for proactive maintenance and remote trouble-shooting – allowing the site manager to dispatch a technician to the site with the right tools and parts. The intuitive SiteLink interface is web-based and easy-to-use.

Rapid Deployment

Our strategic approach allows us to design, build, ship and install systems quickly:

  • Standardized Components: Interchangeable parts and assemblies for maximum efficiency
  • Install-Ready: Containerized MBR systems feature pre-wired instrumentation, electrical quick connects or junction boxes, pre-installed membranes, and side-of-tank and pump connections
  • Spares Stocking: Comphrehensive inventories of spares and parts

MBR System Installations

MBR systems are in operation throughout North America and beyond – providing work camps, municipalities and industry with reliable wastewater treatment that meets and exceeds regulatory requirements. From the mountains of Chile to Canada’s Northwest Territories, Microclear MBR systems are performing in some of the most extreme environments on the planet.
